In the Weft of Memory takes its title from the textile work on which it is based, in which Mallory Lowe Mpoka reinterprets two black-and-white analogue self-portraits (Alter Egos, 2023) as a monumental installation in jacquard, mercerized cotton, and glass beads. The publication offers a fragment of that trajectory: from archive to weaving, from weaving to print. It is accompanied by an essay by Diane Gistal.
In the Weft of Memory is part of Dragnet, an ongoing series informed by existing sets of images: archives, collections, unseen documents, or works in progress. Each Dragnet publication is printed in a limited edition on pink newsprint and accompanied by a signed and numbered original print.
